Fly Fishing Trips For Trout and Salmon
While rowing our fishing raft or drift boat, our Registered Maine Guides provide river knowledge and excellent boat handling to get you into the right position. This is a perfect way to gain confidence in a variety of fly fishing techniques. We offer several river options for your day of fishing. Each trip includes beverages, snacks, a hearty lunch, a Registered Maine Guide, and all the equipment you need for a great day of fly fishing.
Season: May 15 – October 31
Rates: 1-2 anglers - $600/day
Upper Kennebec Gorge - This remote section of the Kennebec River is our showcase trip. We are the only fishing outfitter that guides on this rugged section. Well known for its exciting class 4 whitewater rapids, the Upper Kennebec Gorge transforms into a pristine Maine stream and fly fishing haven for brook trout and salmon when the dam is not releasing those big water flows. It has a hidden gem of a fishery located deep in a bedrock canyon. Solitude is the name of the game in the Gorge.
East Outlet of Moosehead Lake - Coming directly from Moosehead Lake, this classic drift boat river is a must-do for all fly anglers. Wild landlocked salmon and brook trout are the target species for this section with deep pools, riffles, and pocket water as the backdrop. Nymph and streamer fishing are staples as well as a great dry fly hatch that can last for months. Fall fishing on the East Outlet can be epic as the big salmon and brookies get ready for their spawn. Add this river to your bucket list.
Bingham Section of the Kennebec River - This is the only section of river in the State of Maine with a wild, self-sustaining rainbow trout fishery. Salmon and brook trout are also caught during the day. This river section is a true tailwater, with cooler water entering the river from Wyman Dam. The braided river bed offers a variety of opportunities for dry flies and nymphs with the chance at a trophy-sized wild rainbow trout with every cast.
Solon Section of the Kennebec River - Known for its brown trout, this section also has salmon, brook trout, and rainbow trout. Weaving its way through some amazing farmlands, this section is as scenic as it is a joy to fish. The long slow pools and deep undercut banks hold some of the biggest brown trout in the Kennebec River system.
West Branch of the Penobscot River - Creating the southern border of Baxter State Park near the town of Millinocket, the West Branch is a classic landlocked salmon fishery flowing in the shadow of mile-high Mt. Katahdin. A well-drifted dry fly in pools such as Big Eddy, Steep Bank, or Little A often results in a long, drag-screeching run to test your skills. The scenery and outstanding fishing make this river one you must experience.
Roach River - One of the major tributaries to Moosehead Lake, the Roach River is built for wading. This remote river is one of our favorites and it has a long-standing catch and release policy protecting its wild fish population. Prepare for a bit of walking when fishing here, as some of our most productive pools require up to a mile of hiking. Like the East Outlet, this river can produce epic fishing in the fall. It’s simply another one for the bucket list.
Smallmouth Bass Fishing
No matter your experience level, Kennebec River Angler has a guided bass fishing trip for you. These hard-fighting fish are just waiting for you to catch them. We access hard-to-reach, remote and uncrowded stretches of water using rafts, drift boats, and jet-drive bass boats. Beginners and those on a tight schedule will enjoy our half-day float trips for smallmouth bass and our full-day trophy bass fishing trips will impress even the most experienced bass anglers.
Each bass trip includes a Registered Maine Fishing Guide and all the necessary equipment. Although these are designed as spin fishing trips, you can request fly fishing. We supply transportation to and from your local accommodations to the river, snacks, water, and a hearty riverside lunch on full-day trips. All our trips are catch-and-release so be sure to bring your camera! You’ll also want to bring a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and rain gear (rain jackets and pants are recommended as we fish rain or shine). While we do provide all tackle, if you prefer to use your own gear, we recommend: medium-weight spinning rods and 6 – 10lb test line, 4 – 7 weight fly rods with floating, sink tip, and full sinking lines.

Full-Day Smallmouth Bass Fishing - Join us for a full day of bass fishing in some of the best smallmouth fisheries Maine has to offer. Remote lakes and river systems are our specialties. Trophy-sized smallmouth up to 5 pounds and as long as 23 inches are caught each season on these waters. The best part is, these fisheries are uncrowded, remote, and just beautiful bodies of water to spend a day on. Your guides will assist in tackle selection and techniques while directing you to a variety of fish-holding locations. Rock piles, shoals, stump fields, grass flats, and current breaks all provide excellent cover and habitat for these hard-fighting bronzebacks.
